Problems With Running Large Networks of Sites

One of the most common questions people ask me (after asking how many sites we have in the network) is “How the **** are you able to work on/run so many sites?” It’s a fair question, and one that no doubt I’ll be coming back to to talk in more detail about in the future. Any of you out there that run one or even a handful of sites will understand that with any web site there is a fair amount of work that goes into keeping it up and running.

Common Questions Part 2

The second part of my common questions posts. If you haven’t already read it you should probably start with part 1.

Q. Do you use a CMS/what CMS do you use?

A. We do indeed use a CMS to run the sites. The CMS we use is called Typo3 and is built using PHP with a database backend (we use MySQL). I’ll talk more about Typo3 in detail in a future post, but one of the big benefits is the ability to run multiple sites of a single code base.
